  • Junior Mayor For the Day

Year 6 pupils spend the day with Chichester Mayor Sean McHale

    An account written by Phoebe:

On Wednesday 15th April, 3 children (Phoebe, Kianoosh and Jessica) visited amazing parts of Chichester with the mayor, learning new things on different topics. We started off at the council chambers, where we put on robes and lace of importance before leaving in the car.

The first destination of the day began with a trip to the fire station, having a look around at everything in the fire engines and asking lots of questions. We got to hear the siren and have a look at the gym that the fire fighters train in. We learnt some very fascinating facts about fire fighters and really enjoyed the place.

Our next destination was to Tangmere military aviation museum, where we were told about what life was like back in WW2, and even got to feel what it was like in a bomb hideout! We had so much fun looking at the beds, rationing and so much more!

After that, we went back to the council chambers for lunch and had a special meeting with the mayor and council members - enjoying the company of scruffy the dog!

After a refreshing break, we walked to the Novium museum, where we explored the difference between modern time day-to-day life and life in Roman times, and looking at old and new maps. We enjoyed seeing the weird and funny things that the Romans used to use!

We finished the day out with a trip to the planetarium, learning the things you might ignore in the starry night sky. We were taught about how there might be life on some planets which we found quite interesting!

Back at school, we got to plant a ......tree, also getting certificates as a reward. We thanked everyone, leaving with a day that we wouldn't forget.
